There are days that I get ready to photograph a wedding where I'm feeling unmotivated & uneasy about how it's going to go, because I mean who doesn't have those days? But then there are other wedding days that you are absolutely pumped to be working with the bride and groom, excited to capture their love, and inspired to make sure you get the best images as possible. And that's exactly how I was the morning going into Ellen & Kevin's wedding day.
Days in Southern California can be a bit iffy because of the fog that sometimes decides to roll in at odd hours of the day and not let any sun shine through. But I think that God was watching over everyone the Sunday of June 26th, because the only thing you could see was the sun shining, just like Ellen & Kevin's love.
We started our morning with Ellen's bridals at the Malaga Cove Plaza, which I am still absolutely in love with. Ellen looked so timeless in her dress and her natural hair and makeup. Her floral bouquet, made my Karen Sartori, was so unreal that I just couldn't stop photographing it. Ellen brought along her two sisters, where we got to take some images that the family will be able to treasure for a lifetime. Ellen's gorgeous bridesmaids, I mean LITERALLY STUNNING, came a little while after so we could do all their portraits at the Plaza as well. You can see how obsessed I was with them and their mismatched dresses below.
We then headed to the beautiful Redondo Beach Historic Public Library, where their ceremony and reception were held. We started with Ellen & Kevin's first look, which still gives me chills when I think about it. (A little back story about Ellen & Kevin: They started dating in the 9th grade and right then, everyone knew they were meant to be. I have known this beautiful couple for 8 years and I was so honored to be chosen as their photographer). Ellen & Kevin's couple portraits are some of my favorites. Every time Kevin looked at Ellen, you just knew that they are going to live the happiest life.
After some fun wedding party portraits, we headed over to the ceremony site to get ready! Now when I tell you the ceremony pictures are a tear jerker, just trust me. Kevin could not keep a dry eye the entire time and it touched everybody's heart. They prayed together with their foreheads as close as possible. When it came time for their first kiss as husband and wife, they just couldn't take their lips apart. The smiles that came following the ceremony were priceless.
The reception was stunning down to every detail in the library. The guest table cards were placed in a vintage book locator (Such a cute idea!). The grand entrances were probably some of the funniest I have seen yet and the toasts were oh so special. The cake cutting was priceless after Kevin smashed cake all over Ellen's face, resulting in their first married argument, haha! The family and friends of Ellen & Kevin's danced the night away, resulting in a hot library and sore feet, but I can promise you it was all worth it.
This day was nothing short of amazing. This couple was made for each other and I was so glad that I could be there celebrating their love for one another. Ellen & Kevin: Thank you again for including me in your wedding day. I cannot tell you how much both of you mean to me. I wish the happiest of lives together. Cheers to your future! xo
